Laura Sullivan
Laura Sullivan grew up on a farm with spectacular views of both Mt. Lassen and Mt Shasta in the Northern California Ishi Wilderness. Raised in a musical family, Laura began learning to play the piano through her mother's teaching at the age of 4 years old. At age 8 she was composing her first compositions and by the time she was 18 she had composed a body of work, including 6 feature length musicals. Laura then founded a children's musical theater company called "Star Company" through which she composed and directed her own shows, receiving rave reviews in local Northern California press.
Laura went on to study piano with Dr. Robert Bowman, receiving a Bachelors in Piano Performance with honors from CSU Chico with further graduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her work has been included in film scores, and other media soundtrack, including the feature "Emotions" which debuted at the New York Film and Video Festival in 2003 and a soundtrack to the reading of "Mrs. Merriwether's Musical Cat" by celebrated author, Carol Purdy. Laura was also a featured artist in a pilot TV show called "Music Across America" produced by legendary musician and 2004 Grammy nominee, Stanley Clarke.
Laura composes original and evocative New Age piano music. Her clear and memorable themes evoke deep emotions and expose a contemporary, freshness which at the same time suggests roots born of classical music. Kathy Parsons of Solo Piano Publications writes: "A strong and passionate pianist, Laura Sullivan brings a distinctive new voice to contemporary piano." Although her style is one of a kind, Laura's music has been compared to that of George Winston, Suzanne Ciani and Wayne Gratz.
Laura's appreciation for our environment blossomed in the wilderness setting where she grew up and continues to influence and inspire her compositions to this day. Laura now makes her home in the beautiful Bay Area of California, near San Francisco.
